When Each Billing Option Makes Sense

Choose Annual When...

  • Stable team size. If your headcount is predictable for the next 12 months, annual billing is straightforward savings.
  • Committed to Notion. If your team has used Notion for 6+ months and it is your primary tool, you are not switching soon.
  • Budget allows upfront payment. Annual billing charges the full year upfront. A 20-person team on Business pays $4,800 at once.
  • Maximum savings matter. For large teams, the savings compound significantly. A 50-person team on Business saves $2,400/year.

Choose Monthly When...

  • Still evaluating. If you are testing Notion for a new team or use case, do not commit to a year. Pay the 17% premium for flexibility.
  • Team size fluctuates. Seasonal contractors, project-based teams, or fast-growing startups may add or remove seats frequently.
  • Unsure about the plan tier. If you are debating Plus vs Business, start monthly. You can switch to annual once you have decided.
  • Cash flow constraints. Monthly spreads the cost. A 20-person team on Business pays $480/mo instead of $4,800 upfront.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Monthly billing: Cancel anytime. Your plan remains active until the end of the current billing period. No refunds for partial months.

Annual billing: You can downgrade or cancel, but Notion does not offer prorated refunds for unused months on annual plans. Your access continues until the annual period ends.

Switching mid-year: If you upgrade from Plus to Business mid-year, Notion prorates the difference. If you downgrade from Business to Plus, the change takes effect at your next renewal.
